She is the daughter of actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha and Punam Sinha. She has two brothers, Luv Sinha and Kussh Sinha. Luv is also an aspiring actor.She has also done a course in fashion designing from SNDT in mumbai. Her parents chose her name as Sonakshi. She was really fat before modelling and had lost her weight for her career.
